Where to eat in Capri?

Once home to Emperor Tiberius, Capri is one of the most picturesque islands in the world and a mix of great climate, breathtaking nature and style. Here are my restaurants recommendations:

Da Gelsomina

Da Gelsomina ( Via Migliara, 72  80073 Anacapri;tel. +39 081 837 1499)
Family-owned trattoria and organic winemaker. Accessible only by foot or the restaurant owned shuttle. Good for dinner and lunch when you can enjoy the view of the vineyard and the sea. €€

Aurora

Aurora (Via Fuorlovado, 18/20  80073 Capri;tel. +39 081 837 0181)
Located in the heart of the village of Capri, Aurora is the oldest restaurant on the island and the place to see and be seen. Thin crust pizza with fresh buffalo mozzarella is a must! Perfect for dinner. €€

Il Riccio

Il Riccio (Via Gradola, 4/6 , Località Grotta Azzurra – Anacapri;tel. +39 081 8371380)
Il Riccio restaurant/beach club is perched on the rocks nearby the magnificent Blue Grotto sea cave. Owned by 5 stars Capri Palace hotel, it has one Michelin star and is more upscale than most of the beach restaurants on the island. Perfect and for lunch, and for dinner. €€-€€€

Lido del Faro

Lido del Faro ( Località Punta Carena – 80071 Anacapri;tel.+39 081 8371798 )
Another really nice restaurant/beach club lies at the foot of the island’s lighthouse. Apart from eating at the excellent restaurant, here you can rent sundecks with beach cabins and spend all day swimming and sun tanning. The restaurant is opened for lunch and dinner.€€

La Grotelle

La Grotelle (Via Arco Naturale – 80073 Capri; tel.+39 081 8375719 )
If you are brave enough to walk for 20 min from the Capri center, Le Grottelle will reward you with one of the most impressive views on the island. The cooking is very simple (if you ask for arugula salad with tomatoes, this is what you will literally get), but the location is worth the hike. €

La Fontelina

La Fontelina (Località Faraglioni – 80073 Capri ;tel. +39 081 8370845)
One of the most exclusive beach clubs in Capri, La Fontelina can be only reached by boat or by foot. The sea edge restaurant is all about simplicity and freshness. Last year I heard somebody saying that the pasta with tomatoes at La Fontelina is even better than “mamma’s”… Who knows, maybe he was right. Opened for lunch only. €

Il Geranio

Il Geranio (Viale Giacomo Matteotti, 8  80073 Capri;tel.+39 081 837 0616)
If you search for non-touristy restaurants in Capri, this is not the place for you. During the high season, even when the “day tourists” board the last ferry heading to Napoli, you won’t hide from tourists in Capri anyway. Il Geranio is 5 minutes walk from the Capri village centre and serves fine local fare. And the view of Il Faraglioni, especially at dusk, can be very romantic. €€

Da Paolino

Da Paolino (Via Palazzo a Mare, 11  80073 Capri; tel. +39 081 837 6102)  Known for its lemon trees, Da Paolino is an open-air restaurant with a great buffet and lively ambiance. Best for dinner. €€-€€€

Ceasar Augustus hotel

Ceasar Augustus hotel (Via G. Orlandi, 4  80071 Anacapri; tel. +39 081 837 3395 )
Don’t make a mistake of dining at Caesar Augustus hotel like I did last year. Unless they changed the chef, the food was pretty average. The view of the sea though, you can enjoy from the hotel’s bar sipping an aperitif, is mind-blowing.
