La Colombe d’Or

La Colombe d’Or

La Colombe d’Or is a legendary auberge located in a charming Saint-Paul de Vence village in Provence. The hotel/restaurant is especially famous for its impressive art collection (Artists used to pay their bills with paintings or sculptures.) After the second world war, La Colombe d’Or turned into a jet-set gathering spot.

Now the place is more touristy than “jet set” or bohemian, although is still visited by celebrities (like Madonna few days ago). Speaking of the food, it is fresh and simple but quite expensive for what it is- I doubt that poor artists would afford eating here nowadays.
