Yet another one overrated (1 Michelin star) and overpriced restaurant in NYC… While Cafe Gray ‘s cosy French Brasserie style interior is a nice surprise for the cold Time Warner building, the food was disappointing.
It seems that the chef is trying to be original (Obviously he has spent some time in Asia, so the food is Asian inspired), but its simply not working out. Like my main course “coconut crusted black sea bass, tamarind and kafir lime” which was barely eatable.
If you decide to dine in Cafe Gray though I highly suggest to choose the simplest dishes such as “porcini and chestnut soup, bay scallops and salsify” or “baby lettuce melange, marinated jicama, avocado and hearts of palm”.
