Chez Etienne

If you ask anyone from Marseille what the local speciality is, the answer might surprise you. Forget about bouillabaisse, Marseillais are obsessed with pizza. Here you’ll find it everywhere, from restaurants to food trucks, but no place is as special as Chez Etienne. Opened in 1943, this family owned pizzeria is always packed with regulars who have been going there for years. Be prepared to queue they don’t take reservations (nor credit cards), but the half-and-half pizzas (anchovies and cheese) as well as the quintessentially Marseillais ambiance, with a ripe southern Italian undertone, is totally worth it.
